fry-day.

fry-day.

yes..workload piling up like craaaaazy.

nevertheless, the past two fridays have been well-spent and enjoyed. and i'm secretly hoping for many more such fridays to come haha.

5th sept 2008: Operation "Tom Yum Goong + Chicken Mushroom Spaghetti + Tomato Omelette"

the crazy chefs @ work.
tip #1: to check if the spaghetti is cooked, toss it against the wall and if it sticks, it's done!

preparing the ingredients..
Mak and ah swey were the mastress-es of chopping and cutting.

first we boil the spaghetti
tip #2: always run with cold water to prevent the noodies from sticking together.

and Xiaohuang beats the eggs.

while we boil the spices for the soup..
tip #3: this wasn't just a tom-yum paste soup. we used genuine ingredients like prawn heads to sweeten the soup, big onion, chilli padi, lemon grass and fish stock!

Naldu gets ready to splash the oil.
tip #4: don't be a real kitchen-hazard ball like him - splashy oil on himself, scalded by the pot, tripped over the dustbin ETC -.-|||

behold the birth of Omelette-o!

looking good! but..
tip #5: NEVER FORGET THE SALT!

my turn to cook the spaghetti sauce now!
tip #6: always get a nice big saucepan like Naldu's, especially if you're greedy and want so many ingredients in your sauce.

upclose and personal with Xiaohuang's creation.
repeat of tip #5: NEVER FORGET THE SALT!

tom yum goong was damn good! wholesome, tasty and very spicy.

but too much ingredients so we had to use two pots haha.
tip #6: never overestimate the size of your pot. and of cos the size of your stomachs.
basically, don't be greedy lah.

yeah! our fruits of labour.
now you see it...

now you don't!

full, happy and satisfied =)

but a bit too full.

ya...damn bloody full!!

but there's still room for mahjong.

cooking is really fun! especially with a bunch of good friends in a place like hall, where resources are limited and we have to wreck our brains on how to pool resources.

tips for everyone: shopping at Sheng Siong can be cheap, eye-opening and enjoyable. we bought so much ingredients for about $5-6 a person, including prawns. also try to be ingredients that can be used for more than one dish like mushrooms, garlic etc. oh yes, and this is the time to practise your skills like sifting out the egg yolk using egg shells!

so there it was, our 1 and a half hours worth of hard work, but memories i'll take away with me forever.

and next challenge..bak kut teh! hehe.
